VAAST - Marie Josephine of Drumheller, passed away November 21, 1997.
Marie is survived by one son Bob (Jean) Vaast of Calgary; one daughter
Janette D'Arcy of Drumheller; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren.

VAILLANT - Mr. Andre Jerry Joseph Vaillant passed away suddenly on September
6, 1997 as a result of a train accident in Carstairs, Alberta, at the
age of 22 years, beloved son of Louise and Mike Kaszuba, and dear fiance
of Courtney Thompson. He is also survived by his grandparents, Gerard
and Helen Racine; his aunt Dione Lasalle; and his uncles, Andre Racine

VAN DOREN - Gregory Miles. Our dear and loving son, brother and friend
Greg, passed away suddenly at his home in Calgary, Tuesday, November 18,
1997 of natural causes, at the age of 43. He leaves to grieve, his parents,
Diane and George Van Doren; a sister Tina Simpson and her husband Stuart,
and their children, Connor and Spencer; brothers, Robert Van Doren, Paul
Van Doren and his wife Wendy, and their son Owen; and Lewis Van Doren,
and his children, Levi, Brittany, and Cortanie; his grandmother Julie
Carr; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; as well as special friends,
Denise and Allan, Maggie and Dwight and Linda. He was predeceased by his
great-aunt Bertha Meiklejohn Edwards in July of this year. Greg grew up
in Three Hills, graduated from the University of Calgary, and pursued
his career with AON Reed Stenhouse Limited. He will be missed so much

VAN HEES - Laetitia van Hees of Calgary, Alberta, passed away at the
Rockyview Hospital on November 4, 1997 at the age of 76 years. Laetitia
was born on April 27, 1921 in The Hague, Netherlands. Her life took her
to Indonesia and then she immigrated to Canada in 1952. Laetitia did much
to help other people throughout her life and loved music, nature and animals.
Laetitia is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Derk van Hees and Audrey
Sullivan of Calgary; two daughters, Henriette and friend Klaus Huckseldt
of Edmonton, and Violet van Hees and Ross Burnett of Whitehorse, Yukon.
She is also survived by two grandchildren, Michael and Kerstin. Laetitia
was predeceased by her husband Hendrik in 1993. Funeral Services will

VAN IDERSTINE - (nee Powers) Muriel Wallace Van Iderstine, of Calgary,
passed away at the Peter Lougheed Centre on June 19, 1997, at the age
of 78 years. Muriel is survived by her loving, dedicated husband Vernon,
of fifty-five years; her son Brian and daughter-in-law Diane; her daughter
Dianna Rosenke and partner Ron Kondrat; grandchildren, Drew, Tobi, Darcy,
Chris, Kelli; and great-grandchildren. As a young woman Muriel was prominent
in classical musical circles, a recipient of numerous honours throughout
Alberta. Muriel, an avid wildlife enthusiast, will be fondly remembered
and deeply missed by family and friends. Funeral Services will be held

van MELLE - "Fear not, for I have redeemed you, I have summoned
you by name, you are mine" (Isaiah 43:1). On June 3, 1997, the Lord
took home our father and grandfather, Dirk Machiel van Melle at the age
of 77 years. He was predeceased by his wife Hendrika in 1991. Dirk and
Hendrika emigrated from The Netherlands in 1954 to Prince Albert, Sask.
Two years later they moved to Shellbrook, Sask. where he operated his
own bakery for the next sixteen years. In 1972, they semi-retired to Calgary.
Dirk took on the caretaking of the Grace Presbyterian Church for ten years
at which time he stepped into full retirement. His passions were flying,
singing and communing with nature and he was an avid participant at local
air shows throughout Saskatchewan. He will be lovingly remembered by his
family, Johannes van Melle of Shellbrook, Sask., Aliesje and Norman Carruthers,
and Abraham van Melle and Debbie Thomas, all of Calgary. He is also survived
by six grandchildren, Erhen, Reid, Blain and Nathan van Melle of Shellbrook,
and Jennie and Erin Carruthers of Denmon Island, B.C. As well, Dirk is
survived by a brother and two sisters in The Netherlands. The family would
like to thank Dr. Schorr and all of the staff in Units 27 and 32 of the
Foothills Hospital for their excellent care over the past five years.

VANDEBELD - Roelof (Ralph) Vandebeld, beloved husband of Eva, passed
away peacefully on Saturday, November 22, 1997 after a lengthy illness
at the age of 74 years. Ralph was born in Hilversum, The Netherlands on
July 28, 1923 and immigrated to Canada with his young family in 1953.
He worked for CANA Construction as a carpenter and superintendent for
twenty-five years, retiring in 1984. Ralph was an avid golfer, a talented
artist and gardener. He will be sadly missed by his loving family and
friends. Besides his wife, Ralph is survived by a son Rick of Vancouver;
five daughters and sons-in-law, Clea and Bert Franssens of Bow Island,
Kathy and Curtis Crough of Grande Prairie, Alice and Henry Roest, Brenda
and Blaine Lockie, Eileen and Darrel McKinley; and daughter-in-law Pat
Vandebeld, all of Calgary. He is also survived by one sister Ann Vandebeld
of Rotterdam, The Netherlands; and twelve grandchildren, Mike, Catherine,
Susan, Michael, Jeffrey, Scott, Jason, Adam, Kyle, Carter, Jackie and
Ian. Ralph was predeceased by his son Arnold in 1993 and his parents,

VANDERKOLK - Hendrikje (Henny) of Calgary, formerly of Burlington, Ontario,
passed away at the Brentwood Nursing Home, June 29, 1997 at the age of
92, after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her husband Egbert William
in 1979, and by her youngest son John in 1995. She is survived by her
children, Henry of Hamilton, Ontario, Fritz of Mount Hope, Ontario and
Retta Richards of Calgary; also by six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

VANDERVELDE - Gerald Andrew, beloved husband of Mrs. Janet VanderVelde
of Strathmore, AB, passed away at the Strathmore District Health Service
on November 14, 1997 at the age of 81 years. He is the loving father of
Allan (Linda) of Calgary and Don (Florence) of Strathmore, AB. Gerald
is survived by his three grandchildren, Shaun (Arlana), Scott (Nickole)
and Michael; great-grandchildren, Cody and Jess. He is also survived by
his sisters, Jo Chilton of Red Deer, AB, Julia Chalmers of Strathmore,
AB, Helen Bishop of Langdon, AB, Marge Parker of Calgary; and many nieces

VANGASTEL - Annette (Pat) VanGastel (nee: Dreger) of Calgary, passed
away peacefully at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on October 18, 1997. She
will be sadly missed by her two sisters, Edna Sullivan of Regina, SK and
Katherine Hallett of Calgary, AB; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and
by many friends. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas (Tom) VanGastel,
her mother and father, Emma and Gustave Dreger, four sisters and four

VANGILS - Mr. Andrew Theodor (Andy) VanGils, beloved husband of Patti
Macaulay of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on Thursday,
November 27, 1997, after a motor vehicle accident, at the age of 42 years.
Andy was born on January 7, 1955 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He moved to Alberta
and was married on December 30, 1990. Andy had a great love for life and
an unwielding determination. Besides his loving wife, Andy is survived
by his daughter Nikki Frances; and his son Ian Alexander. He is also survived
by his parents, Matt and Woutrina VanGils; three sisters, two brothers,

VARTY - It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Frederick
(Fred) Edward Varty, beloved husband of Mrs. Daphne Varty of Bragg Creek,
at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on October 24, 1997 at the
age of 68 years, after a brave battle with cancer for the past year. Fred
was born June 5, 1929 and raised at Provost, Alberta. He began his career
working in the Leduc Oilfield in 1949 and has since been dedicated to
the oil industry, having started his companies, Comanche Drilling and
Varco Equipment Ltd. He will be remembered for his wit and great sense
of humour as well as his keen interest in collectibles. He will be lovingly
remembered by his wife Daphne of Bragg Creek; daughter Laurie Ott of Calgary;
son Mike Varty (Donna Cushing) of Bragg Creek; and his grandchildren,
Christopher and Aaron Ott, Lynsey and Megan Varty; his granddog "Dutchess";
brother Carman Varty of Edmonton; sister Peggy (Elmer Spilde) of Calgary;
sister-in-law Betty Varty; and mother-in-law Mollie Austin, both of Provost,
Alberta; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. Fred

VEILLEUX - Jessica Marie Veilleux, beloved daughter of Charles Veilleux
of Calgary and Harbhagen Veilleux of Victoria, B.C., passed away suddenly
on Thursday, November 27, 1997 at the age of 20 years. Jessica loved life.
She enjoyed snowboarding and was starting an exciting new job. She adored
her cat Gucci and her dog Finnigan, who will sadly miss her. Besides her
loving parents, Jessica is survived by her sister Danielle; her very special
friend Dave Phillipson; paternal grandparents, Charles and Patricia Veilleux;

VELTRI - It is with great sadness that the family of Costanza Veltri
announces her passing at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on October 31, 1997
at the age of 81 years. Nonna will be greatly missed by her son Antonio
(Carmella) of White Rock, B.C.; son John of Calgary; daughter Caterina
(Angelo), and daughter Maria (Giovanni), also of Calgary; fourteen grandchildren,
Francesco, John, Saverio, Daniel, Angelo, Maria, and Antonio Migliarese,
Costanza, Saverio, Franco, and Antonio Veltri, Teresa, Cabrina and Giovanna
Perri; and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters,
Antonietta and Rosina of Italy, and a brother Francesco of France; as
well as numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Italy, June 11, 1916, Costanza
then met and married Saverio. They and their first two children moved
to Canada. They settled and completed their family in Trail, BC. In 1981,
they moved to Calgary, Alberta, where they resided. She was predeceased
by her loving husband of fifty-two years on June 29, 1986. She will always
be remembered for her great love and devotion towards her family. Her
strong and unique spirit will forever live in our hearts. Please join

VISSER - Mr. John (Jack) C. Visser of Calgary, passed away at his residence
on November 25, 1997 at the age of 68 years. Jack was born in Calgary
on August 14, 1929. He spent his early childhood in Okotoks, Turner Valley
and Moose Jaw. Jack graduated in Law from the University of Alberta in
1954 and practiced in Calgary and surrounding area. Jack is survived by
a son Thomas (Tom); and a daughter Allyson Visser; and five loving grandchildren,
Annaleis, Cecile, Tyrone, Forrest and Megan; as well as two great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his twin brother Everett Visser and twin sisters,
Margaret Southern and Christena Wood, all of Calgary. A Private Family

VYSOHLID - Mrs. Margaret Vysohlid (nee Kerr) of Calgary, passed away
peacefully intoGod's loving hands at the Glenmore Auxiliary Hospital on
Sunday, December 7, 1997, aftera long illness, at the age of 68 years.
She grew up in and attended high school in Blairmore.After high school,
she began working as a legal secretary and in 1952, moved to Calgarywith
her husband and children where she continued her career as a paralegal,
which lastedover thirty-five years. She was a loving and devoted wife,
mother and friend and will bemissed by all that knew her. She will be
sadly missed by her loving and devoted husbandWalter. Margaret will be
deeply missed by her two sons, Robert and Thomas; her threegrandchildren,
Michelle, Carman and Brent. She also leaves to remember her, her sisters,Betty
Lund of Calgary and Isa Randahl of Coronation; and family members, Milan
andDorothy Vysohlid, Annie Hughs, Geraldine, and Lou Harpur; as well as
