SCHAFER - Maria (Oma) Schafer, a resident of the George Boyack Nursing
Home, passed away peacefully on June 11, 1997 at the age of 87 years.
She is survived by three children, Val Gogorenko of Calgary, Kasimir (Jim)
and Emma Schafer of Sparwood, BC, Alexander and Ursula Schafer of Calgary;
also twelve grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. Maria
was predeceased by a son Valdemar in 1945, and her husband Kasimir in
1988. She was born in the Ukraine on November 10, 1909. She emigrated
with her family to Canada in 1951, into the Lethbridge area and settled
in Calgary in 1952. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at MOUNTAIN
VIEW FUNERAL HOME on Saturday, June 14, 1997 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Funeral

SCHAFFLER - Rose Marie Schaffler (nee Gramlich), beloved wife of Adolph
Schaffler of Calgary, passed away peacefully on November 26, 1997 at the
age of 77 years. Rose was born in Rosenheim, AB in 1920. She married Adolph
in 1940. They moved to Killam, AB, where they owned and operated the Red
and White Store until coming to Calgary in 1974. In Calgary, Rose worked
for Sears in the Chinook Centre Mall and then The Bay downtown until her
retirement. Rose is survived by her six daughters and her son, Dianne
Breault (El), Cheryl Weisgerber (John), Jacqueline Trofanenko (Howard),
all of Calgary, Kathleen Weisgerber (Mike) of Brooks, AB, Marilyn Maloney
(Jim) of Lacombe, AB, Lori Reardon (Rich) of Los Angeles, CA, and Daniel
Schaffler (Sherry) of Ottawa, ON. Rose is also survived by her fifteen
grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three brothers and three sisters.
She was predeceased by her twin brother Jack, sister Regatta, and brother

SCHARFF - Ernst Scharff passed away peacefully at the Peter Lougheed
Centre on July 16, 1997 at the age of 89 years. Ernst is survived by his
wife Marta, daughter Elli married to John, son Jurgen married to Gerry,
son Gerd and daughter Hanna, all of Calgary; five grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren. Dad, rest in peace. He will be sadly missed. Funeral

SCHEUCHNER - Shaun Allen, beloved son of Allen and Sharon Scheuchner
of Calgary, passed away at Alberta Children's Hospital on September 14,
1997 at the age of 19 years. Shaun is the loving brother to Ralphine,
Todd and David, all of Calgary. He is also survived by his grandparents,
Blanche and Arnold Scheuchner of Morningside, AB; aunts and uncles, Bruce
and Marion Snape of Duchess, AB, Norma and Rand Berg of Millicent, AB,
Judy and Buzz Buijs of Hythe, AB, Hazel and Don Snyder of Morningside,
AB; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Shaun was predeceased
by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Snape, and Mr. Daniel Scheuchner.

SCHLEPPE - Julius (Carl) Schleppe, passed away at the Peter Lougheed
Hospital on December10, 1997 after a brief illness at the age of 77 years.
Julius was actively involved with the RoyalCanadian Legion in various
capacities, most notably as the Service Officer at the High RiverBranch
for the past several years. Julius is survived by a son and daughter-in-law,
Michael andGinette Schleppe of Edmonton; two daughters, Janet and Jack
Wickens of Cayley, and ElizabethEllis and Herman Poliakov of Calgary;
three grandchildren, Lora (Bruce) Tannas of Trinity,Texas, Jay Wickens
of Nanton, and Kerri Ann Schleppe of Edmonton. Julius was predeceasedby
his wife Jean in July of 1996. A Memorial Service will be held at the

SCHMALTZ - Mr. Servulus (Servi) Adam Schmaltz, beloved husband of Mrs.
Phyllis Schmaltz of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on
November 12, 1997, after a courageous battle at the age of 65 years. Born
December 23, 1931 in Beiseker, Alberta to parents, Adam and Frances Schmaltz.
Servi was a Professional Engineer and graduated in 1955 from the University
of Alberta with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He is a life member
of A.P.E.G.G.A. and a member of C.I.M. Servi particularly enjoyed golf
and curling and was a member of the Highland Golf and Country Club. Besides
his loving wife, Servi is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Greg
and Karen, and Ken and Susan, all of Calgary. He is also survived by four
sisters and a brother-in-law, Barbara Morrison of Calgary, Grace and Hugh
Brown of Burnaby, B.C., Louise Blacklock of Calgary, Catherine Schmaltz
of Calgary; one sister-in-law Audrey Schmaltz of Edmonton; and numerous
nieces and nephews. Servi is predeceased by his parents, infant sister

SCHMIDT - Aleksandra Schmidt (nee Makrocki), passed away peacefully at
the RockyviewGeneral Hospital on December 21, 1997 at the age of 82 years.
She will be lovingly rememberedby her daughter Lucy; son-in-law Andrew;
grandsons, Michael and Oliver; as well as threesisters, Apolonia, Stanislawa
and Julia; one brother Peter; and many dear relatives and friends.Aleksandra
was born in Poland and immigrated to Canada in 1954. She was predeceased
by herhusband Alexander in 1974. Aleksandra was a most loving mother,

SCHMIDT - Doreen Margaret Brown, born Glasgow, Scotland on March 3rd,
1932, passed away peacefully at the Tom Baker Cancer Center on September
4th, 1997. Beloved wife of Armin, loving mother of Lloyd and Blair, sister
of Bryce and Stanley of Scotland, Kenneth (Joan) of England and many nieces
and nephews. Doreen was predeceased by her mother in 1957, father in 1959
and sister Joy in 1991. Special thanks to the staff on Unit 57. Memorial

SCHMIDT - Harold Henry Schmidt, beloved husband of forty-one years to
his wife and bestfriend Helen, passed away on December 5, 1997 after a
courageous battle with cancer at the ageof 65 years. Besides his loving
wife, Harold is survived by his two sons, Darcy and his wifeKelly and
granddaughter Madyson, and Daryl and Paula. He is also survived by his
brother andsisters, Emily Twardy, Carol Plett, Ernie (Verena) Schmidt,
Anne Schmidt, Jean (Elmer)Pagens; his mother-in-law Katie Jaworenko; and
by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased bythree sisters, five brothers
and by his parents, Jacob and Louise Schmidt. Harold was born inVanguard,
Saskatchewan. For seventeen years he worked for Union Packing until he
startedHarold Schmidt Electric in 1969, until his passing. Harold belonged
to the Elks Lodge and GolfClub, I.B.E.W. and bowled for thirty years.

SCHMIDT - Louise May. On Wednesday, November 12, 1997, Louise Schmidt
of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta passed away at the age of 59 years following
a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her loving husband
Lloyd; one daughter Robyn (Eric) Baxter of Tottenham, Ontario; one son
Dennis at home; two grandsons, Zackary and Quinn; her mother-in-law Margaret
Schmidt; one brother, five sisters, also numerous other relatives and
friends. Louise was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Maria Bergan
in 1987, and father-in-law Tony Schmidt in 1993. Those wishing to pay

SCHMITZ - It is with deep sorrow that the family of Jerome Nicholas Schmitz
of Strathmore, announce his passing on November 21, 1997 at the age of
74 years. He is survived by Lillian, his loving wife of forty-nine years.
Also mourning his death are his six loving daughters, Kay (Greg) Rosell
of High River, Connie (David) McBride of Edmonton, Lynn (Francis) Van
Bussel of Strathmore, Debbie (Peter) Muller of Edmonton, Margie (Michael)
Barrie of Fernie, B.C., and Shelli (Gerry) McCallum of High River. Jerome
was a devoted grandfather to twenty-six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by two sisters, Julie Craik of Spirit River and Dorothy
(Bob) Lewisson of Dawson Dreek, B.C.; and one brother Matt Schmitz of
Fort Macleod. He was predeceased by three brothers, one sister, and one
grandchild. Until his stroke a year ago, Jerome was an avid golfer and

SCHNEIDER - Mrs. Andrea Schneider passed away peacefully on Saturday,
July 5, 1997 at the Rockyview General Hospital at the age of 94 years.
Andrea was born December 2, 1902 in Ghent, Belgium. She married Michael
Schneider and raised seven children. Andrea was a special lady, loved
by everyone who knew her. She is survived by two daughters, Gerry and
her husband Bob Fay of Lethbridge, Alberta, Yvonne and her husband Merle
Derochie of DeWinton, Alberta; and a son Jack of Albany, New York; two
sisters, Yvonne Lynch and Irma Greer; as well as numerous grandchildren
and great-grandchildren. Andrea was predeceased by her husband Michael,

SCHNEIDER - Paul Herbert Schneider of Calgary, passed away at the Peter
Lougheed Hospital after a brief illness on July 1, 1997, at the age of
71 years. He is the loving father of Garrett and his wife Kelli, and loving
grandfather to Cody. He will be sadly missed by his four-legged friend
"Tippy". Paul is also survived by his sister Edith Perry. He
was predeceased by Helen, his wife of forty-four years in 1994, parents,
Adolph and Lydia, two sisters, Elsie and Violet, and brothers, Emil and

SCHNELL - August Ernest (Ernie) Schnell, husband of Mrs. Ida Schnell
of Calgary, passed away at the Rockyview Hospital on Saturday, November
1, 1997 after a lengthy illness at the age of 65 years. Ernie was born
May 25, 1932 at Rockglen, Saskatchewan. He had worked for Dominion Bridge
for many years. Mourned by his wife of forty years, Ernie is survived
by a daughter Karyn McNair and a son Derek Schnell, both of Calgary; and
four grandchildren, Crystal, Stephen, Joshua and Jennell. He is also survived
by two brothers, Calvin and Colin; and a sister Wendy; as well as several

SCHNITZLER - Mr. James (Jim) Allen Schnitzler, beloved husband of Mrs.
Elaine Schnitzler of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on
June 5, 1997, at the age of 61 years. Jim was born on September 24, 1935
in Stettler, Alberta. He worked for A.G.T. for many years until his retirement
in 1991. Jim thoroughly enjoyed his retirement years, traveling and spending
time improving their home and yard. Besides his loving wife, Jim is survived
by five sons and three daughters-in-law, Paul and Elizabeth of Calgary,
Gord of Taber, Brian and Jagoda of Jacksons Point, Ontario, Doug, Dan
and Carrie, all of Calgary; and a daughter Teresa Schnitzler of Calgary;
three grandchildren, Jacob, Matthew and Courtney. He is also survived
by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Hazel and Romain D'Hont of Edmonton,
and Doris and Bob Jowett of Kamloops. He was predeceased by a son Jim
Jr. in 1984, parents, Mary and Jacob Schnitzler, a sister Rita Garrett,

SCHOFIELD - Florence Annie passed away peacefully at Rockyview Hospital
on Wednesday, June 4, 1997 at the age of 90 years. She was born in Lloydminster,
Sask., on January 20, 1907. She is survived by three sons, John (Joyce),
Charles (Mary), and Gordon (Lorraine); and daughter Gladys (Jim) Drake;
along with eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. She
was predeceased by a son Lloyd and stepson Ron. Her husband Herb, of sixty-five
years, passed away September 1, 1996 at the age of one hundred. Cremation
will be followed by a Memorial Service in Alliance Community Hall at 2:00

SCHONERT - Mrs. Margaret (Peggy) Schonert, R.N. of Airdrie, passed away
at the Peter Lougheed Centre surrounded by her loving family on November
9, 1997 at the age of 91 years. Margaret is survived by two sons and two
daughters, Doug and Lynda Beatty of Debolt, Richar and Colleen Loxam of
Bowden, Kay Beatty Arthur of Penticton, and Vicki and Ted Engstrom of

SCHROTH - Mrs. Antonia Schroth (nee Puhlmann), beloved wife of George
Schroth, passed onto a life with our Lord on December 1, 1997, at the
Extendicare Hillcrest Nursing Home at theage of 80 years. Besides her
husband George of Calgary, Antonia is survived by her threechildren, Reinhold
(Shirley) Puhlmann of Calgary, David (Leigh) Schroth of Calgary, and Karen(Doyle)
Mullaney of Black Diamond; as well as six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.Mrs.
Schroth was born in Michaelsfeld, Caucasus, Russia on August 29, 1917.
After a longjourney fleeing tyranny and oppression, she came to Canada
in 1951 and married George inTrochu, Alberta. The family would like to
thank the staff at the Extendicare Hillcrest NursingHome for their kindness

SCHUETTE - Elfriede Schuette passed away on June 8, 1997 at the age of
68 years, beloved wife of Artur Schuette, Calgary. She is also survived
by her mother Sofie, two sisters and one brother, all in Germany; brother
and sister-in-law, Guenter and Annegret Schuette, Calgary. Family and

SCHULZ - Anna Maria Schulz, aged 91 years, after many years of suffering
with ill health, is now at peace. Anna was born March 20, 1906 in Deutsch
Krone, West Prussia and immigrated from Schalke Gelsenkirchen, Germany
to Canada in 1957 with her husband Martin. Predeceased by four brothers
and four sisters in Germany, a beloved granddaughter Gitta, a son-in-law
Helmut Kleinschmidt and grandson Richard, all of Calgary. Anna is survived
by her husband Martin; daughters, Helga and Irma (Erich); a son Leo; grandchildren,
Gisela (Wolfgang), Ulla (Bill), Vera, Robert and Anneliese; and great-granddaughters,
Jessica, Lisa and Dana; a daughter-in-law Charlotte and Anna's favourite
friend, Robert Jones. Also remembering Anna are many nieces and nephews
in Germany, and Gabi and family. Forest Grove Care Centre is where she
spent the final three years of her life, under the ever watchful care
of a gentle, patient and hard working staff. Anna will be sorely missed
by everyone who knew her. A Memorial Service will be announced at a later

SCHULZE - John Hermann passed away peacefully with courage and dignity
at the Agape Manor Hospice on Thursday, June 5, 1997 at the age of 69
years. John will be sadly missed by his beloved wife Anna; his children,
Carl and his wife Cathy, Rita Lambert and Herb Steinke, and Roy and his
wife Melanie; his eight grandchildren, Christie, Katelyn, Amanda, Sara,
Chelsey, and Ryan Schulze, and Timothy and Danielle Lambert. John will
also be sadly missed by his sister-in-law Barbara and her husband Bill
Graham; and by his brother-in-law Joe Graf and his wife Katie; as well
as by numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend their
sincere gratitude to the staff of the Agape Manor Hospice, and to Dr.
Ken Cody for the kindness shown to John and his family. A Service of Remembrance

SCHULZE - Hilda Emma passed away peacefully on July 8, 1997 at the Foothills
Hospital. Hilda was born in Berlin, Germany on March 27, 1914. She immigrated
to Calgary with her family in 1959. She leaves behind her sister Edith
of Germany; two sons, Hans (Jocelyn) of Manilla, Fred (Helen) of Calgary;
two daughters, Jutta Woppel and Eva (Peter) Kreiling, both of Calgary.
Also five grandchildren, Andrea, Debby, Rick, Patti and Susan; and three
great-grandchildren, Nichole, Courtney and Ashlynn. A Service of Remembrance

SCHWARZ - Peter F. Schwarz, beloved companion of Sheryll Celmainis, passed
away peacefully September 3, 1997 at the age of 43 years. He will be lovingly
remembered by his daughters, Sarah and Melissa; his parents, Ingeborg
and Joachim; his brother Herbert; sister Rita (Bromma); and four nephews.
He will be sadly missed by all those whose lives he touched. Funeral Services

SCHWENGLER - Mr. Tony Schwengler, beloved husband of Mrs. Barbara Schwengler
of Beiseker, passed away at the Three Hills Regional Health Care Centre
on June 18, 1997 after a lengthy illness, at the age of 87 years. Born
in Winnifred, Alberta, Tony moved to the Beiseker area in 1924 and farmed
south of Beiseker until his retirement in 1967 when he moved to Beiseker.
In 1971 he married Barbara Silbernagel. Besides his loving wife, Tony
is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Jean of Beiseker;
two grandchildren, Murray, and Ron and his wife Mary Anne; two great-grandchildren,
Nicole and Danielle; a brother Simon Schwengler; and a sister Katie Kiprick,
both of Beiseker. He is also survived by Barbara's family, Delores and
Don McGowan of Vancouver, Marilyn and Jack Matthisen of Anchorage, Alaska,
Gerry and Joyce Silbernagel of Calgary; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-seven
great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Julia in 1954.

(Beiseker, Alberta), today, June 20, 1997 at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will
be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church (Beiseker, Alberta) on Saturday,
