MA - David Ma passed away at the Rockyview Hospital on July 20, 1997 at the age of 43 years. MABIE - Frank W. of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Colonel Belcher on December 1, 1997 at the age of 86 years. Frank served overseas with the Calgary Highlanders from 1939 to 1945. As a young man, Frank worked at Ogden Shops, and also at the Currie Barracks and Colonel Belcher as a sign painter. Frank enjoyed gardening and creative arts. Dad will be dearly missed by his children, Phyllis, Don and his wife Wendy, and Tricia; grandchildren, Chad and Leah McPherson, and Chris Mabie. Frank will also be remembered by his many friends. He was predeceased by his wife Mollie, his son Stu, and his brothers, Jack and Roy. MACARTHUR - Allister MacArthur passed away tragically as the result of a motor vehicle accident on June 29, 1997. Al will be sadly missed by sisters and brothers, Marion (Earl), John (Jean), Linda (Al), Garfield and Alice; his aunt Margaret of Quebec; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, one brother and one sister. Al will be sadly missed by many friends and associates and will always be remembered as the man who always had a smile and humorous comment to everyone. MACDONALD - Mrs. Eleanor Janie MacDonald of Calgary, passed away at the Forest Grove Care Centre on July 20, 1997, at the age of 90 years. Janie was born January 4, 1907 in Nova Scotia. As a child she moved to Bankhead, Alberta, then to Bellevue and to Calgary in 1940. Janie is survived by a son Les, and a daughter Laura Smith, both of Calgary; two granddaughters, Dawn Cadeau and Kerry Dvorkin; and two great-grandsons, Travis Cadeau and Courtney Dvorkin. She was predeceased by her husband Eddy on June 23, 1990, and a son Donald Arthur in January, 1984. MACDONALD - Margaret Anne, aged 85 years, passed away November 4, 1997, widow of the late Walter MacDonald. MACDOWELL - O'Lena Andrea. On November 17, 1997, Mrs. O'Lena MacDowell of Westlock, passed away at the age of 91 years. She was born O'Lena Martinusen on October 1, 1906 in Airdrie, Alberta. She is survived by one son Gary James (Audrey) MacDowell of Willow River, B.C.; one daughter Linda (Romeo) Futoransky of Dapp; four grandchildren, Valerie Kerik of Calgary, Rick (Carey) Mueller of Westlock, Christopher Futoransky of Dapp, and Paula Futoransky of Westlock; one sister-in-law Gladys Martinusen of Cochrane; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Jim MacDowell, one brother Milo Martinesun, three sisters, Frances Manning, Agnes Bowhay and Alice Anderson. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 21, 1997 at 2:00 p.m. in the Trinity Lutheran Church at Westlock, with Pastor Rod McFarlane officiating. MACFARLAN - Ann Cameron Macfarlan passed away at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on July 12, 1997 at the age of 97 years. Ann was born on August 23, 1899 in Dumbarton, Scotland and moved to Calgary with her family in 1913, where she resided since then. Ann was above all a very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be most sadly missed by her daughters, Jean and Christina; her son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Robin and grandson Ward, all of Calgary; grandson Neil of Vancouver B.C.; and great-grandsons, Ian and Jeff of Mission, B.C. She is also survived by her sister Helen (Jim) Field; and nieces, Helen (Ed) Griedanus and Melva Hurcombe, all of Vancouver. Ann was predeceased by her husband Edward Parlan Macfarlan and her son Donald. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. MACFARLAND - G.R. (Pat). On September 13, 1997, Mr. Pat Macfarland of Wetaskiwin passed away at the age of 82 years. He is survived by his loving wife Anna; daughter Pat (Hugh) Barmby of Calgary; son Ross (Beverley) Macfarland of Edmonton; five grandchildren, Scott, Terry (Rod) Brooks, Dawn (Brent) Bullen, Kelly (David) Udy, Laurie Barmby; four great-grandchildren; brother John (Min) Macfarland of Bassano; sisters, Connie MacAdam of Richmond, B.C., Tannis (Bill) Betts of Edmonton. MACFARLANE - Melanie Dawn passed away September 9, 1997 at the age of 43. She was the loving daughter of Melvin R. MacFarlane and sister to Calvin D. MacFarlane (Patricia and Preston). Melanie was predeceased by her mother Dorothea and brother Dennis. She leaves to mourn, many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Melanie had a lasting influence on so many students and staff during her twenty years with the Calgary Public School Board. Graduating from the University of Calgary she started teaching Physical Education for several years, and after completing her Master degree moved into Guidance. Her infectious spirit, patience and energy for her profession go unchallenged. She touched the hearts and minds of so many family, friends, students and colleagues. Her bright smile and kind gestures have generated warmth and friendship for so long. We will truly miss you Melanie, our thoughts will be with you always. MACK - (nee Zimmerman). Mary of Calgary passed away at the Dr. Vernon Fanning Centre on December 21, 1997 at the age of 90 years. She is the loving mother of six sons and four daughters. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, as well as many other family members. Mary was predeceased by her loving husband Adam in 1992. MACKENZIE - Catherine. Born in Calgary, January 31, 1912, passed away June 22, 1997. Catherine (Kay) will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Survived by her loving family, sisters, Janet and Mina; and niece Roberta (Vancouver); nephew Stewart (Japan); brother-in-law Russell. Predeceased by sister Rachel (Calgary). Prior to her retirement Catherine was on the staff of the Calgary General Hospital. She was a lifetime active member of Knox Presbyterian Church. Committal will take place at Burnsland Cemetery Family Plot, Wednesday June 25 at 1:00 p.m. Celebration of Catherine's Life will take place at Knox Presbyterian Church, Wednesday, June 25 at 2:30 p.m. The Reverend M. Marpole will officiate at both Services. MACKENZIE - Ruth Mackenzie of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on September 30, 1997, at the age of 99 years. She is survived by four children, two daughters, Margaret (Ross) Glass and Eileen (Ewan) Ferrier; two sons, Gordon (Ulla) Mackenzie and Bill (Rosalind) Mackenzie, all of Calgary; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson. Ruth was predeceased by her loving husband Thomas in May, 1997. She was born in Scotland on July 26, 1898 and was married to her husband Tom for sixty-nine years. Ruth and Tom enjoyed may years of hunting, fishing and outdoor activities in the West, with a special love for the mountains. Ruth was a loving wife, and mother, and will be sadly missed. She was an outgoing, caring person who touched everyone she met, "To know her was to love her". The family wish to thank Dr. G. Gould for his care and concern, as well as the staff of the Cedars Villa Nursing Home, and Unit 61 at the Foothills Hospital. MACLENNAN - (nee Baggott) Gladys Evelyn passed away on Monday, December 8, 1997 atthe Cedars Villa Nursing Home at the age of 100 years. "... she is clothed with strength anddignity, and she laughs at the days to come. She opens her mouth in wisdom, and on hertongue is kindly counsel ... Many are the women of proven worth but you have excelled themall ... Give her a reward of her labors, and let her works praise her at the city gates."Proverbs 31:10... Gladys was born in Birmingham, England and came to Canada at the age offourteen years with her family. Work as a domestic helper and switchboard operatorformed her career. She married Alfred MacLennan in 1924 and raised seven daughters anda son. During their married years, they lived in Moose Jaw, Boston, Cape Breton Island andCalgary. She was a charter member of Renfrew United Church and a life member of TheUnited Church Women. Her husband, Alfred, passed away in 1971, and a daughter, JeanMcQuitty, in 1992. In Calgary, she leaves to mourn her passing, five daughters, LilaHeward, Mona Thomas (Ray), Lois MacArthur (Don), Lorraine Waslenchuk (Art), VeraBeattie; and one son David MacLennan (Heather); and son-in-law Al McQuitty. A sixthdaughter, Rebecca MacLeod, resides in Moncton, N.B. Twenty-one grandchildren,thirty-two great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren will cherish hermemory. MACLENNAN - Lilian Marguerite (nee Broadhead), born in London, England on April 5, 1900 - died peacefully at Mt. Tolmie Hospital, Victoria, B.C. on July 21, 1997. Beloved wife of the late Kenneth MacLennan; dear sister of Marie Cumber, Dorothy Elson, Hilda Good; and her brothers, Edwin and John Broadhead, all of Toronto. She was predeceased by her brother Norman. For many years Lilian worked in the oil industry in Alberta and the North West Territories and later as a freelance writer for the Calgary Albertan. She was a Past President and Honorary Life Member of the Calgary Local Council of Women and active in the First Baptist Church, Calgary. She and her husband were avid gardeners and naturalists. MACMILLAN - Bessie MacMillan of Calgary, went to be with her Lord on Friday, November 21, 1997 at the age of 98 years. She is the loving mother of a daughter Peggy and Bill Melynk of Big Valley, Alberta; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Perry and Inez MacMillan of Parker, Colorado, and John and Myrna MacMillan of Calgary, AB; and a daughter-in-law Pat Kary of Chase, British Columbia; ten grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. Bessie is predeceased by her husband George in 1975, two sons, Harry and Bob, and her daughter Patsy Ann. MACRAE - Murdock (Mac) MacRae of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 1, 1997 at the age of 88 years. He is survived by his loving wife Jeanne; two daughters, Murdeanne (Bob) Mazvry and Ann (Chris) Blackmore; two sons, Jack (Pauline) and David (Sherry); eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. MACY - Mary Christina (Duncan). Passed away peacefully October 19, 1997 at Columbia View Lodge in Trail B.C. Mary was born on August 16, 1919, in Regina, Saskatchewan. She attended school in Olds, Alberta and Business College in Victoria, B.C. Mary worked as a Secretary, later entering the hotel and motel business, retiring in Golden in 1981. She loved and cared for her family. She was also fond of animals. She enjoyed gardening, especially with flowers, and attracting and feeding a variety of wild birds. Mary was predeceased by her husbands, James Duncan in 1960, Walter Macy in 1994, and brother Alex Black in 1991. Mary will be dearly missed by her daughter Jamie (Kerry) Kimmins; four grandchildren, Stephen (Kerry) Kimmins, Jason (Stephanie) Kimmins, Daryl (Raegan) Kimmins, Sharon Kimmins; two great-grandsons, Matthew Kimmins and Michael Kimmins; a brother Bill Black; and several nieces and nephews.
