JACKSON - Mr. Timothy Jackson of Airdrie, AB, passed away suddenly on
Monday, June 16, 1997 at the age of 41 years. He is survived by his loving
family, Donna and two children, Terri Anne, Michael David, all of Airdrie;
his mother Martha Jackson; four brothers, Wayne (Anne), Bill (Judy), Andy
(Gladys), John (Dawn); two sisters, Penny Kent, Rose (Bob) Ward; mother-in-law
Carol Timms; sister-in-law Lisa (Randy) Munroe; as well as numerous nieces,
nephews, relatives and friends. Tim was a local business man, volunteer
firefighter and actively involved in the community. He will be missed
by all that knew him. Relatives and friends are invited to a Visitation
at the Airdrie United Church, 216 - 1 Avenue N.E., on Thursday, June 19
from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at the Airdrie United
Church on Friday, June 20, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Wallace Fry officiating.

JADESKE - Reuben Samuel Jadeske, beloved husband of Mrs. Ann Jadeske
of Calgary, passed away peacefully at home on November 30, 1997 at the
age of 67 years. He is the loving father of three daughters, Val (Dean),
Deb (Rob) and Tracey (James); step-sons, Kerry (Mira) and Bruce (Nancy).
His fifteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and special friend
and nephew Howard. Reuben is also survived by his three sisters, two sisters-in-law,
two brothers, three brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. He was
predeceased by both his parents, his brother and two sisters. Memorial
Services will be held in the Chapel of MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday,
December 3, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment to follow at Eden Brook Memorial

JALLEP - Victoria Jallep (nee Peressini), wife of the late William Jallep,
passed away at the Crowsnest Hospital on June 11, 1997 at the age of 83
years. Vicky is survived by her two daughters, Frances (Steve) Kelemen
of Stavely and Gloria (Jack) McArter of New Westminster, B.C.; two grandchildren,
Stephanie Kelemen of Toronto and Steve Kelemen of Stavely; five step-grandsons;
brother Americo Peressini of Penticton; three sisters-in-law, Pauline
Nickyforuk of Calgary, Mary Peressini of Kamloops and Edna Peressini of
Edmonton; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Vicky was born in Valvasone,
Italy. Except for the years of 1969 to 1976 when she lived in Calgary,
Vicky's home was Blairmore since 1928. Funeral Services were held Saturday,
June 14 with Interment in the Blairmore Union Cemetery. Memorial donations

JAMES - Eric, W.M. passed away in White Rock, BC, on Saturday, December
6, 1997 at the age of 83. Eric was predeceased by his wife Christina (Chris)
in 1995 and is survived by four sons, Bill (Kaye), Colin (Shelagh), Lorne
and Brad. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Laurie, Laura, David
and Bonnie; and by two sisters, Reavely and Margaret. Eric was born in
Winnipeg. He served in the RCAF during World War II in England and Burma,
in The Chinthe Squadron (435). He managed Alberta Sheet Metal in Calgary
for nearly thirty years before retiring to Brentwood, then White Rock,
BC. A Memorial Service will be held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, in White
Rock, Saturday, December 13 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation

JAMES - Howard Wesley James passed away September 15, 1997 at the age
of 81. Predeceased by his loving wife Gert in June of 1996, Howard is
survived by his son Allen (Jane) of Calgary; daughter Gwen Harris (Barry)
of Victoria; brother Lloyd (Joan) of Burnaby; sister Mabel Mash of Richmond;
grandchildren, Todd and Ross Harris, and Christie and Curtis James; and
numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Biggar, Sask., Howard resided in
Regina after his marriage to Gert (Stone) in 1940, moving to Calgary in
1956 where he was well- known in the printing trade in Western Canada,
retiring in 1978 to Malahat and Victoria. A Memorial Service will be held
in Victoria, Friday, September 19, 1997 at 12:00 noon at FIRST MEMORIAL
CHAPEL, 1155 Fort Street. If friends so desire, donations in lieu of flowers

JAMES - Mr. John (Jack) Charles James, beloved wife and best friend of
Pam of forty-three years, passed away suddenly at home on Saturday, October
25, 1997 at the age of 67 years. He will also be lovingly remembered by
son Terry (Gladys) James of Grand Prairie; daughter Wendy (Ryon) Watson
of Calgary; and four grandchildren, Kevin, Diana, Tracey and Ted; as well
as two brothers, Nort (Berle) James and Ted (Shirley) James; two sisters,
Ina (Doug) Barrie and Elsie (George) Couzens; and many nieces and nephews.
Jack worked for the Canadian Western Natural Gas Company for over thirty
years and has spent many happy years camping with his family at Sundre.

JANZ - Erna Martha (Lange) Janz went peacefully to meet her Lord and
Savior at Calgary onDecember 29, 1997 at the age of 91 years. Erna was
born at Kolm-Schnecken, Germany andimmigrated to Canada in 1951. Since
January 1992, she has been a resident of the ExtendicareCedars Villa.
Left to mourn her passing, but grateful that her suffering is over, are
her six sons,Helmut (Martha), Artur (Erika), Kurt (Ruth), Alfred (Ingrid),
Henry (Ellie), all of Calgary, andGerhard (Esther) of Cremona, AB; nineteen
grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren;one brother Kurt in
Germany; nephews, nieces and many friends. Erna was predeceased by herhusband
of more than fifty-three years Bernhard, seven sisters, two brothers,
an infant son and aninfant great-granddaughter. Although she is no longer
with us, her family will always gratefullyand lovingly remember her devotion
to the Lord, her concern for her family, neighbors andfriends, her sincerely
warm smile, her love of music, and her example of finding joy in the workshe

JEFFREY - Mrs. Elizabeth (Betty) McCulloch Jeffrey (nee Paton) of Calgary,
passed away suddenly at her residence on Friday, November 7, 1997, at
the age of 83 years. Betty will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed
by her daughter Jean Couch; and two grandsons, Douglas Couch and Andrew
Couch all of Calgary. She was predeceased by her husband Bert in 1960.
Betty was born in Scotland in 1914 residing there until 1993, when she
immigrated to Canada to join her family. She readily adapted to her new

JENISH - Evelyn Marie Jenish of Calgary, passed away peacefully surrounded
by her loving family on Tuesday, November 4, 1997 after a courageous battle
with cancer, at the age of 57 years. Evelyn was born Tuesday, February
13, 1940 in Estevan, SK and moved to Calgary in 1962. She was a loyal
parishioner of St. Mary's Cathedral and was actively involved in St. Vincent
de Paul through Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Evelyn always said that one
of her greatest moments in life was the birth of her grandson Tanner Alexandre
Wagemans on Friday, November 10, 1995; and her greatest weakness - chocolate.
She will always be remembered for her talents of sewing, making stuffed
toys, her love of cooking and entertaining guests and always taking the
time to be a mentor to those who needed her. Evelyn is the loving mother
of two daughters and sons-in-law, Joanna and Christopher Neil Slimm, and
Jennifer and Daniel Wagemans; as well as loving grandmother to her grandson
Tanner Alexandre Wagemans, all of Calgary. She is also survived by her
sister Marlene Simpson of Fort St. John, BC. Relatives and friends are

JENKINS - Craig Douglas (C.J.), born September 20, 1949 in Calgary,
Alberta, passed away suddenly on July 19, 1997. C.J. was a remarkable
husband, father, and caring person who lived his dreams. He will be fondly
remembered by his wife Terri; by children, Casey and Cayley; stepchildren,
Shelina and Bruce; his mother June, father Fred, and sister Kathy from
Sidney, B.C.; his cousins, and by his many friends. A Memorial Service

JENSEN - Mrs. Edna Anina Jensen of Calgary, passed away at the Bow Crest
Nursing Home on Wednesday, November 19, 1997 at the age of 86 years. Edna
was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother and will always be remembered
with great affection. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law,
Elmer and Claire of Calgary, Stan and Marg of Red Deer, Eddy and Lis of
Denmark; and a daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Roy Klatt of Calgary;
her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two
brothers and sisters-in-law, Wilfred and Selma Westergaard of Red Deer,
and Elmer and Val Westergaard of Dickson; and a sister Jenny Thompson
of Red Deer. She was predeceased by her husband Laurits in 1980. Funeral

JENSEN - J. Carl passed away peacefully after a very fulfilling life
on December 21, 1997 at the age of 86 years, joining his beloved wife,
Anna Marie, where they will be together forever. He is the loving father
of Sven (Ruth), Osa (John "Bud"), Alice (John), Paul (Verna)
and Eric (Michelle). Carl is also survived by eight grandchildren, four
great-grandchildren; and his brother Johannes in Denmark. The family wishes
to extend their thanks and appreciation to the doctors and nurses at the
Foothills Hospital and at the CareWest Glenmore Park Auxiliary Hospital.

JESSA - Mr. Esmail Gangji Jessa passed away peacefully on September
11, 1997 at Peter Lougheed Hospital at the age of 82 years. He will be
lovingly remembered by his daughters, sons, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law,
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also remembered by many friends.

JESSIMAN - Thomas Lowe Jessiman of Calgary, passed away peacefully at
the Agape Manor Hospice on September 7, 1997 at the age of 77 years. Born
on March 6, 1920 in Winnipeg, MB. Tom joined the Royal Canadian Navy serving
on several warships in the North Atlantic during World War II. After the
war Tom pursued a career in management with Fiberglas Canada Limited where
he took up residence in Winnipeg, Edmonton, Toronto and finally Calgary,
where he retired in 1985. As a young man, Tom was revered for his fine
athletic abilities, especially in the fields of speedskating, hockey,
soccer and swimming. Throughout his life, Tom was an avid golf enthusiast
who spent many winters in California and Florida perfecting his game.
Tom's zest for life, sense of humor and charismatic personality endeared
him to his many friends and family who will deeply miss him. Tom is survived
by his wife Mary (nee Earl) of fifty-one years; his son John Jessiman
and his wife Pat Ruby of Vancouver, BC; his daughter Jane Jessiman and
her husband Bernie Bajnok of Calgary. His six grandchildren, Jesse, Andrew,
Casey, Brady, Spencer and Kathleen, will forever remember their special
Grandpa. Tom is also survived by three brothers, William Jessiman of Maple
Ridge, BC, Duncan J. Jessiman of Winnipeg, MB, and Harvey Jessiman of
Burlington, ON. A Memorial Service to celebrate Tom's life will be held

JETTE' - George William O'nil (NEIL) passed away peacefully at Agape
Manor Hospice on November 17, 1997. Born in 1903 the sixth child of nine
at St. Germaine, Que. Life is a journey and our Dad enjoyed all it had
to offer and had a long and wonderful ride. Our families will miss his
presence greatly and thank him for the life he gave us. With love and
admiration, Bill (Lorraine) Jette', Chicago, Illinois, Doreen (Rick) Shandro,
Kelowna, B.C.; and grandchildren, Bob Jette', Chicago, Rod Jette', Dallas,
Texas, and Tracie and Jason Shandro, Kelowna, B.C. At the age of fifteen
he began work as a machinist apprentice with the CN Railway shops in Transcona
and remained with the CNR until his retirement in Calgary in 1968 with
fifty years service. Dad met and married the love of his life our Mother,
Doris Sawchuk, in Winnipeg in 1939 and resided in Transcona before moving
to Drumheller, Alberta for a brief period and in 1951 made Calgary our
permanent residence. Dad was predeceased by our Mother in 1981 and all
of his brothers and sisters along life's way. He loved to curl and for
years skipped on a CN league and up until a short while ago was an avid
card and billiard player and enjoyed the Kerby Centre, Railway Pensioners
Club and several other community organizations. He was a great sports
fan and loved to read. Thanks to our friends and family and Sister Evelyn
for their support and being there for us. Visitation will be held from

JOCHEMS - George was born in Hoeven, Netherlands on June 24, 1923 and
passed away at the Foothills Hospital on June 12, 1997 at the age of 73

JOHNSON - Carl Alfred Johnson, 1917 - 1996. Carl Alfred Johnson passed
away December 10, 1996 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was born in Great Falls,
Montana. Carl moved to Calgary in 1957 and worked in the petroleum industry
for twenty-nine years. He retired as General Manager of Altana Exploration
in 1986. Carl is survived by his daughter Judy Sutherland of Cleveland,
Ohio, and his son Charles Johnson of Kingston, Ontario. Carl was predeceased
by his wife Helen in 1982. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Giles
Presbyterian Church, 1102 - 23 Avenue N.W., Calgary, Alberta, July 17,
1997 at 1:00 p.m. A Reception will be held at the Church following the

JOHNSON - Phyllis Mary (nee Wren) passed away peacefully at the Peter
Lougheed Hospital on November 23, 1997 at the age of 83 years. Born in
Bristol, England, Phyllis moved to Canada in 1951. She enjoyed being a
member of "Order of the Eastern Star" Centennial Chapter No.
136. Phyllis is survived by her husband of fifty-seven years, Les; three
children, Raymond, Paul and Susan (Wayne); grandchildren, Cory, Kent and
Lisa; and by her extended family in England. Memorial Services will be

JOHNSON - Virginia Johnson passed away on November 3, 1997 at the age
of 66 years. She is survived by her loving husband Bill; two sons, Richard
of Edmonton, and Brian of Calgary; and several nieces and nephews who
knew Ginny as a "special" aunt. Virgina was predeceased by her
parents, Ernie and Meda Bell and sister Kay Hilton. Ginny was born and
raised in Shepherd, Alberta until she moved to Calgary to attend Central
Collegiate Institute. Lived briefly in Edmonton, Red Deer and Ottawa and
recently retired from Wernick & Co., Real Estate Appraisers. Special

JOHNSTON - Albert Richard, CM, passed away suddenly 16 August 1997 at
the age of 80 years. Richard was predeceased by his wife Yvonne Johnston
(nee Guiguet), and his granddaughter Catherine. He is survived by his
three children, Kristina (Toronto), Suzanne (Vancouver) and Peter (Calgary);
his two grandsons, Peter and Michael (Calgary); a brother Lester (Astrid)
of Pierson, Florida; and seventeen nieces and nephews. Born in Chicago,
Illinois, 07 May 1917, naturalized Canadian 1957. He studied 1934 to 1935
at Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill., in 1942 at Northwestern University,
1944 to 1947 at Eastman School of Music, Rochester, N.Y., and in 1943
and 1944 with Nadia Boulanger in Madison, Wisconson: B.Mus 1942, M.Mus
1945, Ph.D 1951. He taught theory, 1947 to 1968 at the University of Toronto
and composed, arranged, conducted and commented for the CBC. In 1968 he
became the first Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of
Calgary, and in 1973 returned to his love of teaching as professor of
music where he remained until he retired in 1982. In 1985 he was made
Professor Emeritus at the University of Calgary, and in February 1997
was honoured for his life-long achievements in the Arts by being invested
as an Officer in the Order of Canada. He was involved with numerous musical
societies, including the Canadian Music Council, the Alberta Music Conference,
and in 1977 became the first president of the Composers' Association.
He had a distinguished and varied career as a music teacher, administrator,
composer, editor and critic. His determination to make folk music a living
part of the experience of Canadian children, led him to study and later
implement the Kodaly principals of music education in Canada. He wrote
an co-wrote numerous folk song manuscripts and his latest major publication,
"Folk Songs North America Sings", is used through-out Canada
and the United States. Though as a composer he wrote over fifty works
- however he is best known for his compositions of chamber music and the
set of songs entitled, "The Irish Book". He will be greatly
missed by all who knew him. A Memorial Service is planned at the University

JOHNSTON - Rodney Theodore Johnston, loving husband of Thelma Johnston,
High River, formerly of the Dinton district, passed away at the High River
Hospital on October 15, 1997 at the age of 87 years. Besides his wife
Thelma, Rod is survived by his daughters, Joyce and Vic Willoughby, Red
Deer, and Marian and Bill Benner and Margaret and Walter Hubarewich, all
of Calgary; his sons, David and Joy Johnston, Red Deer and Dennis Theodore

great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Lila Peckham, Calgary.

JOHNSTON - Dr. Thomas (Tom) Victor Johnston beloved husband of Vera
Johnston of Calgary, passed away suddenly at his residence on Saturday,
October 25, 1997 at the of 79 years. Tom was born August 3, 1918 at Horizon,
SK. He graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph, ON, as
a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1950. Tom worked in Regina, SK, for
the Provincial Government until 1952, when he became Saskatchewan Provincial
Veterinarian. In 1958 he joined Dr. Harold Hunter's private practice in
Regina. In 1960 he was hired as veterinarian/manager of the Connaught
Laboratories Research farm at Bolton, ON, where he worked until 1966.
At that time, he returned to Saskatchewan and set up his own private practice
at Oxbow, SK. In 1968, he moved to Carlyle, SK and became the area's first
resident veterinarian for the Federal Government's Health of Animals division.
During the last three years before retirement, Tom worked as Port veterinarian
in North Portal, SK. Tom retired to his acreage in Carlyle in 1983. In
1940, Tom joined the RCAF and trained as a bomber pilot. He was shot down
over Berlin in September 1941, and became a P.O.W. in Germany until the
war's end in 1945. Tom returned home to Saskatchewan and married Vera
Wightman on October 26, 1945. Tom was a member of the United Church of
Canada and over the years served in many capacities as a volunteer. He
had a life membership in the Legion, had been a Rotarian, a Lion, was
on Town Council and the Housing Board. He was an enthusiastic community
worker, and volunteered on many boards and groups. Tom's greatest passions
were his interest in hockey and football, and his love of livestock, especially
keeping and raising horses. If asked, Tom would probably have said that
his greatest pride was his and Vera's five children and six grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife Vera of Calgary; his daughter Judy Robertson
and her husband Russel and family, Kate and Darcie of Oakville, ON; his
daughter Janice Johnston and her daughter Amy of Regina, SK; his daughter
Glenda Eberlein and her husband Wolfgang of Faro, Yukon; his daughter
Gwen Johnston and her family John, Caleb, Jamie, and Abbey of Calgary;
and his son Dr. Robert Johnston of Manchester, Connecticut. Funeral Services

JOLITZ - George William Jolitz passed away peacefully at home on October
19, 1997 at the age of 78 years. Predeceased by his wife Marjorie in 1982.

JONASSON - It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of Barbara
Jean. We are comforted to know that she went quickly and quietly with
a stroke. Barbara was born in Trail, B.C. in 1955 and moved with family
to Winnipeg in 1956, Regina in 1968 and on to Calgary in 1972. She graduated
from the University of Western Ontario. Barbara had a lot of pain in her
life but a great sense of humor, loved horses, cats and dogs. She will
be sadly missed by her parents, Ray and Jean of Calgary; her friend Don
Bewley; brother Kris and wife Esther and niece Laura of Vancouver; brother
Carl of Calgary and his children, Lauren and Jordan who were a delight
to her as they were a part of her life from the time they were born and

at the George Boyack Nursing Home on Monday, June 2, 1997 at the age of

JONES - Mrs. Olga (Ollie) Antonia Jones, beloved wife of Mr. Clarence
Jones of Calgary, passed away peacefully with her family at her side at
the Agape Manor Hospice on Wednesday, December 10, 1997 after a short
but courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 77 years. Ollie was born
January 16, 1920 in Brandon, Manitoba. Ollie and Clarence were married
in June of 1948, and moved to Calgary in 1949. She worked in the insurance
industry for several years, and was the secretary for the Insurance Institute
of Alberta. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and always
put her family first. She took great pride in her home and garden which
she meticulously maintained. Ollie was an active member of St. Bernard's
Parish and the Catholic Women's League for many years. Besides her loving
husband Clarence, Ollie is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marlene
and Bill Lambe of Calgary; and a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Susan
Jones of Kanata, Ontario. She was the loving Nana of five grandsons, Robert
and Jeffrey Lambe, and Ryan, David and Kyle Jones. She is also survived
by a sister Jennie Hrushowy of Courtenay, B.C.; and a brother and sister-in-law,
Peter and Jean Teresko of Toronto, Ontario. Ollie was predeceased by her
parents, Samuel and Mary Teresko, and a sister Helen Antonation. As well
as her relatives and friends, Ollie will be missed by her bridge club

JORGENSEN - Ethel May Jorgensen, beloved wife of Andy Jorgensen of High
River and formerly of Blackie, passed away at the Willow Creek Auxiliary
Hospital at Claresholm on November 12, 1997 at the age of 85 years. She
was born to Herman and Florence Millard in their homestead home at Jenner,
Alberta on May 24, 1912. She received her education at Jenner, Brooks
and Calgary. After receiving her teaching degree, she returned to Jenner
to teach for three years at the Millard School. In 1934 she married Andy
and they farmed near Jenner for the next ten years. It was while they
were there that their three children were born. In 1944 they came to the
Blackie area to farm until their retirement. From 1962 onward they made
High River their home. While there, Ethel and Andy enjoyed many trips
to various parts of the world. Ethel's special kindness and concern for
her friends and neighbours was always expressed with her ready smile and
kind words. Her newsy Christmas letters were legendary with those who
lived far away. Besides her husband Andy, Ethel is survived by her children,
Shirley Stein of Hedley, B.C., David and Connie Jorgensen of Hermiston,
Oregon and Frances Fleischman of High River; her sisters, Alice and Harold
Nielsen of Elnora, and Iva and Don Naegeli of Drumheller; six grandchildren,
thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. Besides
her parents she was predeceased by her beloved son-in-law Milt Fleischman,
her grandson Jonathan Gritten, and two great-granddaughters, Sarah Harquail
