GLADWYN - Joyce Enid. It is with the
most profound sense of loss that the family of Joyce Enid Gladwyn (nee Morris)
announce her passing from this earth on November 1, 1997 at the still young
age of 72 years. Joyce will be sorely missed by her loving husband Arthur,
with whom she spent fifty wonderful years; and by her son Keith; and grandsons,
Evan, Nigel and Graeme. She also leaves behind her brothers, John (Jannette)
Sparks of Calgary, and Kenneth (Glenis) Morris of Nottingham, England; as
well as sister-in-law Beryl (Doug) Dance of Malvern, Worcester, England.
Joyce was born in Birmingham, England on February 11, 1925 and went to her
final rest peacefully after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Joyce
had a special love for life that was contagious to all of those who had
the privilege to know her. The family would like to express their heartfelt
thanks to the wonderfully caring staff of the Agape Manor Hospice. A Funeral
Service will be held in the chapel of First Memorial Funeral Services, 1635
- 17 Avenue S.W., on Wednesday, November 5, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. Interment
to follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens. As expressions of sympathy, memorial

GLANVILLE - Leonard (Len) of Duncan, B.C., in his 87th year, passed away
peacefully following a brief illness, at the Victoria General Hospital
on June 13, 1997. He was predeceased by Doris Glanville in 1963, Louella
Glanville in 1979, and Lillabelle Schroyen in 1989. Len will be lovingly
missed by his son Walter (Irma) of Calgary, Alberta; and two daughters,
Joy (Jack) Atkinson of Maple Bay, British Columbia, Phyllis (Lorn) Fiendell
of Whitehorse, Yukon; a sister-in-law Nancy Mikkelsen of Calgary, Alberta,
together with many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren
and many, many friends. A Celebration of Life Service for Len will be
held on Sunday, June 22, 1997 at 3:00 p.m. from St. Edmund's Anglican
Church, 8340 - 34 Avenue N.W., Calgary, with Rev. David Rankin officiating.

GODDARD - Orval Clayton, beloved husband of Mrs. Betty Goddard of Calgary,
passed away at the Rockyview Hospital on July 2, 1997 at the age of 62
years. Orval is survived by his son Greg (Dianne) of Coleville, SK; daughter
Charlene (Rolly) of Delisle, SK; stepson Dean (Sherry) of Langdon, AB;
and daughter-in-law Linda of Calgary; and four grandchildren, Clayton,
Amanda, T.J. and Shane. He is also survived by his stepfather Halvor of
Cabri, SK; sisters, Doreen, Donna (Larry) and Betty-Anne (John), all of
Peace River, AB; and brothers, Stan (Lee) of Sanguda, AB and Don (Edith)
of Coleville, SK. He will be sadly missed by his aunts, uncles, nieces,
nephews and many friends. Orval was self-employed in the construction
business. He was a very positive, generous and determined man who was
always there for anyone in need. He loved life, golfing and camping. The
family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Patrick Wong for all

GOLAR - Frank Robert Golar of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the
Peter Lougheed Hospital on October 27, 1997 at the age of 84 years. He
is the loving father of Bob (Sue) Golar, and April Golar both of Calgary.
He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Holly, Angie, Kristie,
and Dorian, all of Calgary; his sister Annie of Nova Scotia; and his niece
Ena Maxium of Toronto. Frankie was predeceased by his wife Olive, and

GOLDIE - (SMITH) Patricia Marie, aged 42 years, passed away November
29, 1997 at herhome in Aldergrove, B.C., after a courageous battle with

GOODCHILD - Andrew David, beloved infant son of Cyndi and Jim Thompson-Goodchild,
died at Foothills Hospital on the day of his birth, July 13, 1997. He
is also survived by his grandparents, Bill and Jean Thompson of Mannville,
Alberta, and Evelyn and Ralph Goodchild of Calgary; his great-grandmother
Helen Sinclair of Brockville, Ontario; and uncles and aunts, Ross Thompson

GOODMAN - Victoria, passed away after a lengthy illness September 10,
1997 at the Mineral Springs Hospital, Banff, Alberta. Victoria resided
in Red Deer, Alberta for thirty-eight years. She will be lovingly remembered
by her brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews. Victoria was predeceased
by her husband Robert Goodman, parents, Mathew and Teresa Ballek, sisters,

GOODWIN - Mrs. Helen Goodwin, formerly Desrosiers (nee Prysiazny), born
June 23, 1925 in Three Hills, Alberta went peacefully to her final rest
at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 1997 at the Peter Lougheed Hospital after
a long and courageous battle with cancer. Helen worked for numerous companies
including Woolco until her retirement in 1990. She was an avid gardener
and an even more avid fisherman. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law,
Kathy and Dell Skinner; her son Denis Desrosiers, all of Calgary; six
grandchildren, Jason, Mathew, Steven, Rick, Bernie and Laurie; and a great-granddaughter
Chantel. She is also survived by her mother Annie Prysiazny; her sister
and brother-in-law, Lillian and George Penner, all of Three Hills; four
brothers and three sisters-in-law, Stan and Hazel of Lethbridge, Ed of
Calgary, Al and Betty of Calgary, and Paul and Wendy of Delta, B.C.; and
numerous nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her father William
in 1963, her brother Bill in 1991, an infant brother Ernest, and her husband

GOOLD - Isabella Elliot McLean Goold, of Calgary and formerly of Mississauga,
Ontario, passed away at the Bethany Care Centre, Cochrane on July 10,
1997, peacefully at the age of 83 years. Isabel was born in Dreghorn,
Scotland and moved with her family to Canada in 1953. She is the loving
mother of two daughters, Sandi (Rob) of Calgary, Greta (Micheal) of Port
Dover, Ontario; four grandchildren, Jon of Calgary, Karen Lee, Lynne and
Christine of Ontario; five great-grandchildren, Darcie, Zachary, Melissa,
Rachael, and Holly. She will also be lovingly remembered by many friends
and the staff of the Bethany Care Centre in Cochrane. Isabel was predeceased

GOOSEN - Ronald Maria Goosen (Ron), beloved husband of Mrs. Helen Goosen
of Calgary, passed away suddenly at the Foothills Hospital on September
4, 1997, at the age of 42 years. Ron was born in Edmonton, Alberta and
came to Calgary with his family in 1966 where he has since resided. For
the past twenty-one years, Ron has worked for the Calgary Co-operative
Association. He also coached Minor Hockey for over twenty years, and was
the President of the Simons Valley Hockey Association from 1996 to 1997.
In 1976, Ron married Helen Kilgallon and they had two children, Ryan and
Kimberley. Ron was an excellent Dad and was known for his sense of humor,
his intelligence and always caring about others before himself. Besides
his loving wife and children, Ron is also survived by parents, Ted and
Anne Goosen of Balfour, British Columbia; a sister and brother-in-law,
Terry and Allan McKinnon of Calgary; two brothers and sisters-in-law,
Rick and Jennifer of Sherwood Park, and Roy and Tracey of Calgary; as
well as his mother-in-law Brenda Kilgallon and her family. Relatives and

GORDA - George Gorda of Ponoka passed away on November 6, 1997 at the
age of 72 years. He is survived by his daughter Janet (Jeff); and grandson
Peter, all of Calgary; two brothers and eight sisters. George was predeceased

GORR - Alice Thelma Gorr of Acme passed away at the Three Hills Health
Care Centre on November 9, 1997 at the age of 70. Alice was born on May
10, 1927 to Fred and Annie Green on their family farm. She was predeceased
by her father Fred in 1944, mother Annie in 1975, sister Edna in January
1997. She married Albert Gorr in February 1945. In their fifty-two years
of marriage, they farmed and raised their sons, Larry and Darryl. Mom
had endless love and energy for her family and friends. The same love
and nurturing for her family also showed through in her love for gardening.
She took great pride in her knitting and crocheting. Mom enjoyed the move
to Acme in 1973 as it gave her more time to simply enjoy life. Mom's zest
for life will truly live on through us all. Alice is survived by her loving
husband Albert; two sons and five grandchildren, Larry and Joy, Colin
(Bonnie), Dean (Chris), daughter Jody; Darryl and Wanda, Shawn, Krista.
Mom was also very proud of her great-grandson Clayton. Funeral Services

GOSS - Donald William, aged 63 years, of the Hartell district, passed
away at the Oilfields Hospital, Black Diamond on December 8, 1997. Donald
was born on July 18, 1997 at Rockyford, Alta., the second son of Leslie
and Helen Goss. He is survived by and will be sadly missed by his three
children, his oldest daughter Connie Jones and her husband Brad, and their
children, Kyra Jensine and Logan; his son Chris, his friend Lorry and
his daughters, Teresa, Krista and Kelsey; his youngest daughter Carol
Duthie, her husband Blayne and their daughters, Megan and Samantha; Don's
friend Judy Thomson and her family, Steven and Cathy. He is also survived
by his mother Helen Raymond; his sisters, Irene and Carl Cowling, and
Sheila and Roy Jasper; and his brothers, Elmer, Hugh and Noel, Emmett
and Linda, Gordon and Marlene, and their families. The Goss family came
to the Hartell district in 1948 and Don spent his life farming and working
in the oilfields. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, December

GRAFF - Anna. On October 22, 1997, Anna Graff of Calgary, formerly of
Wetaskiwin, passed away at the age of 83 years. She is survived by her
loving family, son Donald (Dolores) Graff of Ferintosh; daughters, Doreen
(Gordon) Beck, and Maureen (Philip) Unland, all of Calgary; six grandchildren;
six great-grandchildren; brothers, Edward (Ella) Winter of Ponoka, John
(Shirley) Winter of Camrose; sisters, Martha (George) Woodside of Wetaskiwin,
Alma Schierman of Ponoka, Minnie (Erven) Buss of Ponoka, Ruby (William)

GRAINGER - Mildred Elizabeth Grainger, born August 4, 1921 in Dayton,
Minnesota, passed into God's care, November 15, 1997 in the Long Term
Care Unit, a long-time resident of Calgary and late of Fort McMurray.
She was predeceased by her husband Geo Clement Grainger, January 15, 1972.
She is survived by her daughter Betty Lynn Grainger and husband George
of Winnipeg, Man.; her son C. Wayne Grainger and wife Flo of Fort McMurray;
three grandchildren, Mark (Debbie), Darren (Kim), Troy (Jill) Grainger;
six great-grandchildren, George, Chris, Kyle, Mark Jr., Jacob, Michelle;
one great-great-grandchild Kianna; brothers, Art and Harry Mattheis, a
sister Freida Holthues, and sister-in-law Laura Mattheis, all of Montana,
U.S.A.; sister-in-law Zena Grainger of Beiseker, AB; Ken and Darlene Ward

GRANT - Arthur Patrick, age 92 years, of Claresholm, Alberta, passed
away December 10, 1997, beloved father and father-in-law of Joan and George
Cisar of Granum, Alberta and Donald and Dianna Grant of Mississauga, Ontario.
He is also survived by six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, the late James and Helena Grant, and
by his loving wife Ella on August 21, 1997. Born at Wishaw, Scotland he
came to Canada in 1910 homesteading with his family at Benton, Alberta.
He attended school at Oyen and Calgary. Mr. Grant graduated from Normal
School in 1923, then taught at various schools in the Acadia Valley area.
He was Principal at Monitor and Cayley prior to moving to Claresholm in
1941 where he was Vice-Principal for three years. He was C/O of the Air
Cadets Corp during World War II. In 1944 he became Secretary Treasurer
of the Macleod School Division and moved to Granum. He was Secretary Treasurer
of the Town of Granum and was instrumental in planning the water and sewage
systems in Granum. When the School Division moved their offices to Claresholm
in 1966 he returned to live in Claresholm. During his term with the School
Division he was involved in school bus financing and salary negotiations
for different School Divisions. He retired in 1970 and later served as
School Trustee for Claresholm and was President of the Alberta School
Trustees for three years. He and his wife enjoyed wintering in Yuma, Arizona
for seventeen years. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Christ The King
Catholic Church, 352 - 50 Avenue West, Claresholm, on Saturday, December
13, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. with Father James De Los Angeles, Celebrant. Interment
will follow in the Claresholm Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations

GRANT - Janet S. (Jennie) Grant passed away peacefully in Calgary on
December 8, 1997 at the age of 95 years. She will be sadly missed by her
niece Margaret Grant; and her children, Tom (Carmyn), Dan (Renee) and
Corey (Cheryl). Janet was predeceased by her parents, her brother Tom,
and nephew Dan. She was born in Ayre, Scotland and came to Canada as a
young girl. Janet was employed at the Calgary Herald for twenty-five years.
She will be lovingly remembered by family and friends. A special thank

GRANT - Jessie Bennett Grant passed away at the Father Lacombe Nursing

N.S. on September 19, 1904. She lived most of her life in Toronto, ON.
before coming to Calgary, AB. in 1986. She was a member of Club 36, Alzheimer's

wife Nicole of Calgary, Jim Bennett and wife Jacqueline of Cornwall, ON.;

GRANT - William David, born in Sarnia, Ontario on May 12, 1921, passed
away in Kelowna, B.C. on June 12, 1997. From 1951 to 1959 he served as
Traffic Engineer for the City of Calgary and was with the Federal Government
at S.A.I.T. until his retirement in 1971. He is survived by his wife Sheila;
daughter Vicki Grant; son David Grant; grandson Ian Fraser; sister-in-law

GRAVES - George Thomas Graves passed away peacefully at the Rosedale
Hospice in Calgary, after a brief illness on November 20, 1997. George
was a native Calgarian, born April 10, 1920. He attended Central High
School and saw a great many changes during his seventy-seven years, in
the skyline of Calgary. George served for five years with the Canadian
Armed Forces in the south of England during World War II. Upon returning
home to Calgary, he began a thirty-five year career in the automobile
business. He was an active volunteer in his community with Kinsman, K-40
Club and the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede Board. George was a Charter
Member of Riverview United Church and a member of the Glencoe Club. He
was a kind and gentle man, generous with his time and affection. Above
all else, George loved his family. He is survived by his wife and dearest
friend of forty-seven years, Grace; and two daughters, Marilyn (Jeff)
McCaig and Diane. His three grandchildren, Robb, Scott and Christa McCaig
will forever remember their grandpa's smile, affection, and many miles
of chauffeuring. George will be missed by his sister Jean Peach; sister-in-law
Wilda Graves; dear cousins, Margaret (Harold) Ferriby of England, and
Jean (George) Spear of Ottawa; several nieces and nephews; and many wonderful
lifelong friends. George has gone to join his beloved brothers, Alwyne

GRAY - On July 8, 1997 Annie Beverly Gray passed away at her home in
Toronto. She is survived by her sisters, Lillian (Jim) Frisken of Calgary,
and Eileen (Stuart) Pettigrew of Oakville, Ontario. She is also survived
by her niece Anne Pettigrew and her nephew John Pettigrew, both of Oakville;
as well as numerous cousins, mostly in Alberta. Beverly was born November
15, 1916 near Youngstown, Alberta. She worked at the Calgary Herald in
the late forties and fifties, then moved to Toronto. She spent twenty-four
years as a travel writer at the Toronto Globe and Mail until she retired
in 1981, and for thirteen more years she wrote for them as a freelancer.

GRAY - Marjorie Melissa Gray, of Calgary, passed away at the Bow View
Manor on Wednesday, November 5, 1997. She is survived by nieces, Beverley
(Phil), Dolores (Rob), Linda (Scott), and Nancy; as well as four great-nieces,
Kirsten, Cayley, Megan, Breanne; and a great-nephew Steven. She was predeceased

GRAY - Nelson A. Gray (Sandy), of Calgary, formerly of Montreal, passed
away at the Foothills Hospital on September 14, 1997 at the age of 78

GREENBERG - Mrs. Sally Greenberg of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills

GRENIER - Victor Emmanuel Grenier passed away peacefully on October 20,
1997 at the Forest Grove Care Centre in Calgary at the age of 91 years
young. He is survived by his sisters, Irene Grenier of Calgary, Florence
Bouchard of Calgary and Alice Gayse of Sylvan Lake; as well as numerous
nieces and nephews. Victor was born on January 7, 1906 in Quebec. He lived
in the city of Drumheller most of his life until his last three years.
He was a life member of the Pioneer Acres Museum Society in Irricana where
he shared his passion for antiques, particularly his love for old machinery.
Victor will be sadly missed by all those who knew him. In lieu of flowers,

GREY - Joyce Blossom Yvonne Grey of Calgary, Alberta, passed away at
The Princess Grace Hospital, London, England on June 17, 1997 after a
long struggle with Lymphoma (cancer). She is interred in the Gunnersbury
Cemetery, London. She leaves surviving, her husband Noel Grey, a retired
Calgary lawyer;a son Kenneth Edward Grey, a lawyer in London; and a daughter
Jacqueline Averil Fletcher of Binfield,Berkshire. Joyce was a good wife

GRIFFIN - Mrs. Mary Helen Griffin, beloved wife of Mr. Clifford Griffin
of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 23, 1997 at the
age of 83 years. Mary was born on March 2, 1914 in Toronto, Ontario. She
married Clifford Charles Griffin on July 13, 1935 and they lived in Winnipeg
until 1960 when they moved to Calgary. Mary had worked as a sales clerk
with Eatons. She was a Collegian of the Calgary Chapter of the Women of
the Moose. Her passions were dancing, gardening, elegant fashion, interior
decorating, her family and sitting at the lake shore. Besides her loving
husband, Mary is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and
Marilyn Griffin of Halifax, Patrick and Jane Griffin of Rhode Island;
a daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Konrad Januszkowski of Calgary; and
seven grandchildren, Colleen, Keith, Brock, Cori, Mason, Christopher and
Tania. She is also survived by a sister Margaret Owens of Winnipeg; two
brothers and sister-in-law, Bernard and Merne Cullen of Winnipeg, and

GUIDOLIN - Anna Wilhelmina Guidolin, passed away at the Foothills Hospital
on December 16, 1997 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Anna was born in Drumheller, Alberta on October 4, 1916, being the oldest
of eleven children born to William and Antoinette Guterson. She graduated
from the Holy Cross School of Nursing in Calgary in 1937 and returned
to Drumheller to a long and dedicated career in a profession she loved.
She married Irmo (Moon) Guidolin in Drumheller on September 9, 1941 and
after a brief stay in Calgary, they returned to Drumheller to make their
home. She leaves to mourn, her sons, Frank (Shirley), Victor (Wendy);
her cherished grandchildren, Michael (Cheryl), Andrea, Susanne, Christine
(Sean) Guidolin-MacLeod, Patricia, Mark, Paige, all of Calgary; also her
sisters, Nettie (Ted) Gerein, Frances Jacobson; brother George Guterson
of Calgary; sisters, Dolly (Jim) Patterson, Spokane, Washington, and Mary
(Lee) Campbell of High River. She was predeceased by her husband Irmo
in November, 1984, son John in November, 1997, two brothers and three

GUNN - Dean Lorray "Ray" Gunn, passed away peacefully at home

GUTTRIDGE - Mrs. Bessie G. Guttridge, passed away at Forest Grove Care
Centre on July 17, 1997 following a brief illness, at age 78. Bessie is
survived by her five loving children, Mervin Guttridge of Calgary, Darlene
(Lyle) Holt of Airdrie, Cheryl Horsman of Calgary, Ernie Horsman of Nanaimo,
BC, Daryl (Cheryl) Guttridge of Calgary; as well as five grandchildren,
Darrin and Eldon Holt of Airdrie, Sherie (Rob) Michaud of Moncton, NB,
Corrine and Dan Kunze of Calgary; two great-grandchildren, Samantha and
Joshua of Moncton, NB. Bessie is also survived by her sister Dorothy Shearer
of Edmonton; and numerous nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and
nephews. Bessie was predeceased by her husband Clarence in 1991 and by
her parents, three brothers and one sister. Bessie will be fondly remembered
and sadly missed by her family and a host of friends. Funeral Services
will be held in the Chapel of MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday, July
22 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Gordon Saville officiating. Interment to follow
at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire,

GUY - Mrs. Marie Guy (nee Brohman) of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills
Auxiliary Hospital on Tuesday, September 9, 1997, at the age of 78 years.
Marie was born on June 13, 1919 in Lacombe, Alberta and has resided in
Alberta all her life. Her family ranched near the Ghost Dam since the
early 1940's. She will be fondly remembered by her two cousins, Colleen
Von Pless of California, and Mary Kelly of Ontario; and her two companions,
Dorothy Edge and Robert Urwin. Marie was predeceased by her first husband
Elmer McDonald in 1963 and her second husband Robert Guy in 1989. Funeral
Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, (1307 - 14 Street
S.W.), on Monday, September 15, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Myles
Gaffney, Celebrant. Graveside Service to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
